Water:   It's the earth's most precious resource.  Our cities are powered by it.  Countless industries depend on it and all living things need it to survive.  But it's very possible that in the near future there won't be enough to sustain life on our planet.  From Academy Award winning director Jessica Yu and Academy Award nominated producer Elise Pearlstein, LAST CALL AT THE OASIS sheds light on the vital role water plays in our lives, shattering the myths to expose defects in the current system.  This powerful documentary shows communities already struggling with the ill-effects of degraded water quality, lack of access and dwindling supplies, while highlighting individuals who are championing revolutionary solutions to address the global water crisis. We can fix this problem, but only if we are willing to act now.

Eastern Regional Meeting - Society for Petroleum Engineers of PA
Pittsburgh, Pa
Over the past 5 years since the last ERM was held in Pittsburgh the basin has grown considerably to accommodate the explosion of the Marcellus shale and more recently, its older brother, the Utica shale. The result of this is the rich legacy of experience that was already present in the basin is now armed with access to and the application for the latest technology for oil and gas field development. This has shifted our basin from being a mere ‘user’ of technology to being a true ‘developer’ of technology. We have also seen the industry embrace the added environmental challenges of the area and work through solutions that benefit the communities in which we operate. The theme of the 2013 Eastern Regional Meeting is appropriately named “Bridging Experience with Technology” and Pittsburgh will be the perfect venue to share these realized successes to others in the basin and to showcase them to those operating in similar unconventional basins outside of the area. More information

Calculation of the amount, depth, duration, and timing of water anticipated in a constructed wetland is an essential element for preparing functional wetland designs. The single biggest mistake in botched wetland construction projects is failure to understand the amount and seasonal distribution of water over time.
