PADEP hearing on Shell cracker plant permit

The state Department of Environmental Protection has scheduled a public hearing on whether to issue an air quality permit for Royal Dutch Shell's proposed ethane cracker plant in Beaver County. The department will take oral testimony on the permit application. The plant will convert ethane into ethylene, and then into polyethylene. Based on the permit application, the plant would be capable of producing 1.6 million metric tons of polyethylene per year.

This two day training will focus on design and construction details to achieve net-zero energy use in new buildings. Join Ian Shapiro, founder of Taitem Engineering and co-author of the book Green Building Illustrated (Wiley, 2014) and Liz Walker, Learn@Ecovillage, co-founder of EcoVillage Ithaca, and Executive Director of its educational arm,  as they address fundamentals and strategies for zero energy design. This 4-hour course will guide attendees through the application of thermal remediation in New Jersey. Proposed by TerraTherm and approved as course 2015-009, this course describes In Situ Thermal Remediation (ISTR) as comprised of several robust technologies that have been proven to be able to clean up Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquid (DNAPL) and other organic compound-contaminated source zones in a wide range of subsurface settings, including all soil types both above and below the water table, and in fractured rock. The course will begin with a basic overview of ISTR and evaluation of the pros and cons of Electrical Resistive Heating (ERH) and Thermal Conductive Heating (TCH) and show how thermal treatment can be used to treat bedroc
